10 Postpartum Outfits Essentials For The Hospital And Home
Hey mama. You’re having a baby soon? O-M-G! Ok, no time to waste. There’s so much to do.
But first things first, we need to get you geared up with the perfect postpartum outfit for the hospital and to head home in.
And to do that we need to answer one BIG, IMPORTANT question.
Do you have to wear a hospital gown after delivery?
N-O. Abso-freaking-lutely not.
That being said… did I wear the hospital gown? Hahaha yes!
My son’s birth happened at lightning speed and I barely had time to decide if I wanted an epidural let alone think twice about what I was wearing.
But you? You will be more prepared than I was. You are going to wear whatever you want darling. And I have some amazing ideas for you.
So what do you wear in hospital after birth then?

Ok, without further ado: Here are my 10 postpartum outfit essentials for hospital and home.

8. Leggings aren’t your jam? No problem. Meet my favorite pants in the whole wide world: Everyday lounge joggers!
I have to tell you a little kept secret: I’m not even pregnant or postpartum anymore and I still wear these things at least 3 days a week.
In those early postpartum days, you’re really not going to be doing much but hanging out with baby and getting the hang of feeding them.
So do yourself a favor and stock up on a few pairs of these.
I have black already, but gray, oatmeal, and slate blue all have my name on them too!

7. Girrrl, you’re going to need yourself some high-waisted postpartum recovery panties.
I’m not going to get into allllllll the fun ins and outs of postpartum recovery here, but it’s time for some real talk about undergarments.
Plan to bleed for up to six weeks or so. This is a natural part of your recovery called lochia.
During this time, you’re going to want to wear an extra absorbent pad, and you will be very swollen and bloated.
Things might not be super pretty if you catch my drift. So what we’re looking for is total functionality.
I would also highly recommend buying these in black in case you end up with some staining and want to just throw them away.
There are a couple advantages to the high-waisted cut as well. First, it will help hold your postpartum belly in.
It also won’t rub and irritate a c-section scar.

6. Next up? How about an award-winning, new mama favorite nursing/pumping bra.
This is arguably going to be the most important piece of your new wardrobe.
I bought so many bras after having my son and just kept buying them because I wasn’t being smart or strategic about my purchases.
So if you want to cut all the nonsense, just buy the bra you really need and want in the first place and be done with it.
The magic of this bra is that it’s both a nursing and a pumping bra.
If you do plan to breastfeed and ever plan to be away from your baby, you’ll need to pump as well.
Long story short, you may find yourself needing to both breastfeed and pump in any given day.
That means you 10000% want a bra that’s equipped to help you do both instead of a bra geared to only one or the other.
The only alternative is having to change bras multiple times throughout the day. And trust me, YOU DO NOT WANT TO DO THAT.

5. Here’s an outfit you can totally LIVE IN for weeks before and after baby’s arrival: Davy Nursing And Maternity Pajamas.

Trust me, you are going to want a couple pairs of these. This is the perfect thing for lounging around in the hospital or at home when cuddling up with your bae.

4. How about something super duper soft? New mamas love this Clea Bamboo Long Sleeve Classic Pajama Set
May I say from experience, you definitely want pockets in your pants as you walk around with a new baby!
It’s easy to get stuck in a chair breastfeeding or bottle feeding and being like oh shiz, I’m stuck here for 30 min without my phone?!
Hate that.

3. For a simple layer that’ll get the job done. Try the Sublime Hands-Free Pumping & Nursing Tank
It’s got all the benefits of the pumping and nursing bra I mentioned, but as a soft, stretchy tank top. Pretty freaking smart if you asked me.
It fits all your breast pump flanges hands-free and clips down to be easily accessible by your breastfeeding babe. Either way, you’re G2G.
Plus it’s extra long so it’s super flattering and supportive. Yaaaas.
Pssst did you know this fun fact? You can even expense nursing bras and tops with your FSA or HSA.
