Shortly after starting this motherhood self-care blog, I wrote the note below. That is, until I came to my senses and realized what I was doing. But instead of deleting it altogether, I want you to see what I defaulted to. Apologizing for… nothing? So, yes. I think it’s high time for me to stop apologizing.
Here’s the note I wrote:

I’m so touched and inspired by the outpouring of support this blog has gotten so far. There’s just one problem, I conceived (yes there are other uses for that word) the idea, wrote the first two posts, and went live all in one day. And now I’m like oh shoot, people are actually seeing this, I have to make it look like it wasn’t slapped together in a day.
But the show must go on, people! Please be patient while I work with a few friends to get this thing ….
Why do women do this?
That’s as far as I got before I stopped myself and realized: I NEED TO STOP APOLOGIZING. Instead of being embarrassed by how undone my site used to look when I originally made it myself, I wanted to be proud for taking this chance. For being brave enough to share a piece of myself before I let my brain kick in and criticize it the whole idea to death.
I believe we live in a society that rewards perfection above many other things. Duh, just check your social media. But other things are beautiful to me too. Like not being great at something. Trying something for the first time. Figuring things out as you go. Being real. Being wrong. Doing something poorly the first time, but sticking with it, then getting better at it. Or just enjoying what you’re doing whether you get one reader or one thousand.
I’ll admit, that as someone who makes a living as a writer, it’s hard not to obsess over every word. I usually write and rewrite and rewrite again. But I don’t want this to be that. I don’t want to overthink the life out of this. I want this to be real and relatable. So what this is, is permission for all of us. To not be perfect.
This especially goes for your parenting style. I love the saying “You’re the best mom/parent for your baby.” Because it’s so true. Anyone who says “well when I was raising my kids…” has already gotten a chance to parent! This is YOUR adventure. Do it the way you want–and make a million mistakes along the way.
So I’d like to try my note again.

I put this blog together in one day because it was such an exciting idea to me. I continue to work on it every day. And I can’t wait to see what it will become. I am figuring it out as I go, so thanks for being on this journey (disclosure: I hate when people overuse the word “journey” but I’m not sure what else to call this right now) with me. Sincerely, I appreciate you more than you know.
